31 Bible Verses for Feeling Worthless

Use these Bible verses for feeling worthless, to be encouraged and lifted up by what God’s Word says about your worth, value, and identity in Him.

Table of Contents

Worthless. This is a common feeling. I have often looked at my appearance, my weight, my social status, my finances, and other external factors to determine my worth.

“I am not worthy enough to have this job.”

“I am not worthy enough to lose this weight.”

“I am not worthy enough to parent this child.”

God doesn’t care about those external factors.

I have told myself so many lies in my life. Have you? Have you asked?

Am I worthy?

Does God love me?

Why would God love me?

Keep reading. You are worthy! God does love you!

And once you understand who you are in God, you will see why He loves you.

Our feelings of worthlessness are just feelings. They come from a spirit of fear. They aren’t the truth.

It’s okay to acknowledge those feelings and then choose to believe what God says to be true about you.

Bible Verses On Your Unshakable Worth In Christ

A woman sitting in front of a window with a text overlay that reads as 31 Bible Verses for Feeling Worthless.

You are worthy in God’s eyes, the only eyes that matter.

1. Revelation 3:4: You Are Worthy

“People who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy

Revelation 3:4

You are worthy and will walk with God. God’s forgiveness cleans our garments.

2. Genesis 1:26 – You Are Made In The Image Of God

“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Genesis 1:26

Just think, God made us in His image. God sees us as worthy enough to rule over the animals and land He created.

With God’s strength, we are able to rule over the sufferings of this present time.

3. Ephesians 1: 5 – You Are Adopted Through Jesus

“He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will”

Ephesians 1:5

I have always seen something so special in the relationship between an adopted child and their adoptive parents. Their parents did not accept and love what they were given, but out of every child available, they chose to love one specific child.

God did this for us. Out of all creation, He chose you to be his child.

You are worthy to be God’s child.

4. Ephesians 1: 11 – You Are Chosen

“In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will”

Ephesians 1: 11

There are days that I don’t feel worthy enough to be accepted by the people I work with, but God chose me. I am part of His plan and will.

You have been chosen by God. Listen to Him through time in His word, through prayer, and through quietly listening, and you will hear His will.

5. Jeremiah 29:11 – God Has Plan For You

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

This verse has gotten me through some very difficult times. I remember lying on a gurney awaiting surgery for a miscarriage of twins and God speaking this verse to me.

I was worthy enough to have God hear my prayer and give me hope for the future.

Whatever is going on in your life today, God is with you. His plan is to bring you prosperity and never to harm you.

6. Luke 12: 6-7 – You Are Worthy In God’s Eyes

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Luke 12: 6-7

Think of how much a pet means to you. How much you would do for them? You didn’t even create them, but you view them with enormous worth. Now reread the verses in Luke 12: 6-7.

God sees you as more worthy than the animals He created.

7. 1 Samuel 16:7 – God Looks At Your Heart

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I  have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

Many of us consider our outward looks, clothes, money, and good works as deciding factors in our worth.

Many times I have said,  “Wow, Tammy (me), you are a waste of space,” thinking I was not worth anything because I was overweight, had stringy hair, didn’t have enough money, and countless other external factors.

But God doesn’t look at any of those factors. He looks at the heart

We need to start looking at our own hearts to see what God sees. He sees our hearts as worthy.

8. 1 Peter 3: 3-4 – God Values A Gentle And Quiet Spirit

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

1 Peter 3: 3-4

Gentle and quiet spirit. Even if you don’t consider yourself a quiet person, what God means here is a person who is not harsh and mean.

You are humble, gentle, and reflective. In God’s word, it says He values this. He values you!

9. Matthew 6:26 – God Values You

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? – Matthew 6:26

You are valuable! God provides for you.

Yes, you will go through hardships; we all do, but God is there, and He will see you through.

Look at the example of Corrie Ten Boom. She had every occasion to feel worthless, but she didn’t. She rested on God’s promises, and He saw her through it all.

10. Song of Solomon 4:7 – You Are More than A Worldly Flaw

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.”

Matthew 6:26

This poem was written about a married couple. We, the church, are to be God’s bride.

Does this mean we have no flaws? No

In this husband’s eyes, his wife had no flaws. To God, if we ask forgiveness, our flaws are forgiven.

Why?

Because God views us as worthy of being forgiven.

Bible Verses On God’s Love For You

God loves you more than you have ever been able to love anyone.

11. Romans 5:8 – God Loves You

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

Can you imagine loving someone enough to die for them?

I know I have said I would die for my children, but if the time came could I?

We love our children more than ourselves and still we do not love as much as God loves us.

12. Joshua 1:9 – God’s Presence

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

What better proof of love can we ask for? God loves us enough that he will always be with us.

Every morning, I pray for God to show me His presence, and every day He does not disappoint.

13. John 3:16 – God’s Undying Love

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

He loves us so much that He gave the world His son, knowing He would die. Could you give your child for this world?

Think of the unconditional love and compassion that God has for you; to give His child to save you.

14. 1 John 4:19 – Accept God’s Love

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

This is one of my favorite verses. The more we accept God’s love for us, the more we can love others.

God is love. God will always love us; it is up to us to accept the love of God. Accept His love and the good things He gives us.

15. 1 John 4: 9-11 – Canteen of Love

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

1 John 4: 9-11

This versus complements 1 John 4:19. God’s desire is for us to accept His love and to love.

Think of a canteen. You are hiking and find a person on the trail, sitting and looking very tired. You offer them some water, but your canteen is empty. You must fill your canteen so that you can give to others.

It is the same with love. Fill yourself with God’s love and then let His love overflow onto everyone you meet.

16. Ephesians 4:15 – Speak Truth In Love

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

Ephesians 4:15

We strive to be like Christ. This verse refers to speaking truth in love and that will help us get closer to Christ.

There have been times when someone has asked me for an opinion, and my opinion was not what they wanted to hear. When this happens to you, speak the truth, but always in love.

This is what God does for us as well. His word speaks the truth; sometimes truths we Do not want to hear. That truth is always spoken in love

17. Ephesians 5: 1-2 Walk It Out In Love

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Ephesians 5: 1-2

Who do we look at for an example? Typically, we look to our neighbor, a model, or a professional. We then feel that we do not add up to what we see.

Follow God’s example, knowing that He is love. Everything you do, walk it out in love.

Bible Verses On Your Identity In Christ

You are part of a whole. You are God’s.

18. Psalm 139:14 – God Made You Wonderful

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Psalm 139:14

God made you wonderful. Look around you at nature and animals, they are all made with purpose and beauty, so are you.

19. Psalm 139: 13 – God Was Your First Influence

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 139: 13

God began His work on you in utero. As you were being formed, Just think, God was your first touch, your life’s first influence.

20. Ephesians 4: 4-6 – We Are One Body

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

Ephesians 4: 4-6

We are all part of one body. This verse emphasizes ONE.

We are all equal in God. Together we form the ONE church of Christ.

21. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – You Are New

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

2 Corinthians 5:17

As you came to Christ, you became new. Your identity changed to that of a child of God. God carries you in the palm of His hands.

22. Genesis 1:27 – God Created You In His Image

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:27

Even before you came to God on your own, He designed you to be His child. He created you to be you. There is only one of you, and you are created in His image.

23. 1 Peter 2:9 – You Are God’s Special Possession

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

1 Peter 2:9

This verse is full of information on your identity in Christ. You are chosen. You are part of a royal priesthood. You are part of a holy nation. You are God’s special possession.

When you began this article, did you ever think you would learn that you are chosen, royal, holy and God’s possession? You are!

24. Ephesians 2:10 – You Are God’s Handiwork

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 2:10

This verse is so full of hope. God does great work, and you are His handiwork.

He prepared our way in advance. Not only does He have plans for us, He has already prepared the way.

We will go off plan because we are human and have free will. But God is a great designer and will map an altered plan to get us back on track.

25. Galatians 2:20 – Christ Lives In Me

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20

What an impactful statement, “I no longer live”. Christ is now living in you. You are part of the whole. You are an integral part of God’s plan and purpose.

26. Isaiah 43:1 – You Are God’s

“But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”

Isaiah 43:1

God says, “You are mine”. How much more identity do we need? We are God’s!

Encouraging Bible Verses When You Feel Insecure

Trusting and leaning on God will see you through.

27. Jeremiah 17:7 – Trust God

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

Jeremiah 17:7

Put your trust in God. He will bless you and keep you.

I have a note on my computer that says “I Trust God”. I read it many times a day. Trusting God is our best resource.

28. Isaiah 32:17 – Quietness And Confidence Forever

“The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.”

Isaiah 32:17

When you trust in God, He will provide you with peace, quietness and confidence. And read that word at the end of Isaiah 32:17 “forever”, WOW forever.

29. Isaiah 40:31 – God Will Give You Strength

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

Hope in God, that is to say Trust that God will deliver on His promises. He will give you strength. You will have endurance.

30. Isaiah 41:10 – Lean On God

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

God will have your back through this whole journey. He is with you always and will provide the strength you need. Lean on God, not your own understanding.

Without God’s strength, I know I could do nothing.

I have lost 133 pounds with 38 to go, I have a full-time job and several part-time jobs, I am using my gift of writing and teaching, and I am raising my granddaughter. I can only do these things because of God’s strength.

Thank God, He says,

“See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…

Isaiah 49:16

You can also do, all you need with God’s strength. Lean on Him. He is the God of hope.

31. Philippians 1:6 – God Will Complete His Work In You

“being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 1:6

This is an amazing verse! God will complete the work He began in you, before you were even born. God is always working on us.

This gives me thoughts of peace because I know through my difficult times God is still here, still working, still providing strength.

God’s Strength Combined With Who You Are In God

Trusting in God, leaning on God, and knowing who you are in God will soar you through to confidence and the ability to fulfill God’s plan for you.

I wanted to share this with you. It has seen me through some times of feeling not worth much and has inspired me to truly know my worth in Christ. Look closely, and you will see some handwriting on it.

A poster with a woman's face and a handwriting of Tammy's grandaughter "You are my Mimi, love you".

I hang this in my bathroom so that I read it every day, several times a day, and my daughter and granddaughter wrote on the form. My daughter wrote at the bottom, “You are worth it” and my granddaughter wrote at the top, “You are my Mimi, love you”

Whenever you doubt, know that God loves you; also know that you have people in your life that love and care for you as well.
