5 Ways Prayer Transformed My Weight Loss Journey

Feeling discouraged about weight loss? Discover 5 ways prayer transformed my weight loss journey and how these guided me to stay motivated and find success.

Without prayer, I don’t know that I would be here today.

Prayer, Scripture, and most importantly, God, have given me the strength to make it through my complex, difficult journey to improved health through weight loss and medical management.

I have been heavy all my life.

I progressed through school, always weighing more than my peers. I was consistently about 50 pounds overweight until my senior year in high school.

My senior year in high school, I moved into my own apartment, couldn’t afford food, and quickly lost those extra pounds. It lasted a short time until I became pregnant with my first son and blossomed to over 200 pounds.

I knew the standard prayers—Our Father, Hail Mary—but didn’t know about prayer as a way to speak with Jesus. I knew all about Biblical history but didn’t know Jesus personally.

My weight went up and down, mainly up until 2022, when I hit 349 pounds.

I had personally met Jesus in 1992, but He and I were working on so many other issues in my life, that other than asking Him to just miraculously take away the weight, I hadn’t asked Him for help.

In two thousand twenty-two, Jesus had healed me from so many other pains and tribulations that I felt it was time to focus on weight and health. I prayed for strength, motivation, patience, self-compassion, knowledge, wisdom, guidance, and support.

I needed all His help. I was about to go through a weight loss journey that I had never dreamed possible and on top of this I also was to go through a health struggle I had never seen coming.

I relied on these two Scriptures throughout my journey.

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4: 13

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline”

2 Timothy 1: 7

Jesus stood by me and gave me all the help I prayed for.

This article will show you what I prayed for and how Jesus helped me, and how Jesus can help you too, through prayer.

1. Prayer Helped Me Find Strength and Motivation

An inspiring scene of a woman praying with a text overlay that reads as 5 Ways Prayer Transformed My Weight Loss Journey

Struggles with Motivation

My weight has always been a constant struggle for me.

In two thousand twenty-one, I had severe high blood pressure that was not being controlled well by medication. I was pre-diabetic. I was in pain every time I moved.

I had three stairs to enter my home and would literally cry in pain each time I had to attempt them. I even walked in my home with a walker at age 55.

I finally accepted what God had been showing me through my prayer and devotion time, that I needed a more drastic tool to help with weight loss and I started my journey with bariatric surgery. My full journey is more detailed in this My Weight Loss Surgery Experience – Was it Worth It article.

During this time, I searched for a Christian based weight loss program. I knew I couldn’t find strength and motivation on my own. I needed God, but I also needed His people.

I found one program, but it wasn’t truly Christian based and then God led me to Faithful Finish Lines and I met Sara from the Holy Mess and Becky from So Very Blessed. The science of weight loss was represented  and the heart of God was represented. It was exactly what I had been praying for.

I even tried to bargain with God and tell Him that now that I found this group, I didn’t need surgery.

I didn’t know why then, but God did guide me that yes I needed this group, but I also needed this surgery.

I went to pre appointments for a full year for the surgery. There were dietician appointments, psychology appointments, weight loss counseling appointments, and medical appointments.

I also continued with Faithful Finish Lines and blanketed all of this with prayer.

I prayed daily for motivation to continue on what I knew was God’s path for me. So many times I wanted to quit.

In September of 2022, I had to have pre-surgery blood work. My surgery was scheduled for October 14. The results of this blood work showed an abnormality that led me to a hematologist.

I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA), a condition where my body kills its own red blood cells. It was critical for me to go through treatment and have the surgery postponed.

I thought maybe this was God saying that I didn’t need this surgery after all, but it was just a struggle, a bump along the journey in God’s plan.

I struggled greatly with the treatments for AIHA.

Part of the treatment was extremely high doses of steroids. I put on a lot of weight. All the weight I had begun to lose through following Faithful Finish Lines guidelines.

I saw first-of-the-day blood sugar numbers in the high 200s. This is me during treatment.

Tammy face before losing weight.

I just wanted God to take me home, but He kept showing me that He had work for me to continue. I could not understand how. The pain was so bad that I would wake in the middle of the night with leg cramps from my ankles to my hips. I didn’t think I could go on.

I needed motivation just to wake up each day.

There were times that I would pray a beautiful, flowing prayer and there were days I would simply say, “Jesus, help me today”. He heard both prayers.

Here is a sample prayer for motivation:

“Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. You know the struggles I face with my health and weight. I acknowledge that my body is a temple of Your Spirit, and I desire to honor You with it.

Lord, I ask for Your wisdom as I pursue improvements in my health. Guide me in making wise choices about my diet, exercise, and any medical interventions that may be necessary. Grant me clarity of mind to understand the steps I need to take and the discipline to follow through with them.

Father, I pray for Your divine assistance in my journey towards better health. Help me to wake up each day with renewed motivation and determination to make positive changes. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may resist temptation and persevere through challenges.

I surrender my weaknesses and insecurities to You, trusting that You are my strength in times of struggle. Thank You, Lord, for Your unconditional love and grace. May my efforts to improve my health be a reflection of my love and gratitude towards You.

In Jesus’ name, I pray,

Amen.”

Inner Strength

I not only needed motivation, but I needed God’s strength.

Have you ever been in a place, where you just know you can’t take one more step. You need God to carry you. Pray for Him to carry you and He will.

“One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. “Lord, You said once I decided to follow You, You’d walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.”

God has carried me so many times through this journey.

I still have written and posted in my home Philippians 4:13 and 2 Timothy 1:7 that I mentioned in the introduction. I say them every time I see them.

They are God telling me that He is giving me His strength and that He has given me the Spirit of self-control.

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength”

Philippians 4:13

Please, do not doubt, God will carry you. He will give you strength. He will give you resilience. He will never leave you.

At my lowest points in this journey, after a prayer and time of discussion with God, I would feel renewed energy and determination.

Prayer would give me the motivation and strength I needed to carry on.

Biblical Inspiration

The story of David slaying the giant Goliath is one that I went back to often in my journey.

My weight loss and AIHA have been my giants. Before God’s strength I was just throwing stones. With God’s strength I was able to target my giants.

David not only slayed Goliath with God’s strength, but relied on God continually for His guidance, strength, endurance, and comfort.

David expressed his trust and reliance on God as his shepherd who leads, protects, and comforts him in Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    Forever.

Psalm 23

David and his men returned to their camp to find it raided and their families taken captive. In this dire situation, David “strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6), seeking God’s direction and finding the strength to pursue and recover all that had been lost.

“David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.”

1 Samuel 30: 6

I want my life to follow the pattern of David’s life that illustrates a dependence on God in times of difficulty and uncertainty.

2. Prayer Fostered Patience and Self-Compassion

Cultivating patience can feel like an uphill battle.

Challenge of Patience

I tend to be a very impatient person. I want everything set right, right now. I have learned that this is not God’s way.

I have never doubted God. He could blink and have taken all my excess weight away and heal the AIHA, but that would not have been in my best interest.

As mothers we do for our children what is best for them, rarely is this exactly what they want, when they want it.

God is our father, and He does what is best for us, not what we want, when we want it.

If I had woken up one morning and all my excess weight was gone and my Autoimmune disorder was gone, I never would have learned all the lessons I have learned along the way.

This also would be a very short article that would just tell you to ask and you shall receive immediately, which wouldn’t be the truth. God can do it immediately, but you probably have lessons to learn, just like I did.

God knows what He is doing, we have to trust Him.

I have found that the best way to have patience is to be in a constant state of gratitude.

Being thankful for everything, helps me see that in God’s time all will be well.

Even in the middle of my treatments, I thanked God. Thanked Him that the treatments existed, thanked Him that I had a wonderful nurse that day to administer the treatments, and especially thanked Him that He never left my side.

I am in another period of impatience with my weight loss. I have lost 145 pounds, but have stalled now for 4 months. This is me now.

Tammy full body photo after losing weight with the help of prayer.

Everyday I thank God for my 145 pound weight loss and this helps me to patiently wait for my body to lose the last 20-30 pounds it needs to, or that I feel it needs to.

This prayer has helped me through this time of impatience.

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the life and body You have given me. Thank You for Your love and grace that sustains me each day. Lord, I am embarking on a journey to improve my health and well-being through weight loss, and I know that this path requires patience and perseverance.

Please grant me the patience to endure through the challenges and setbacks that may come my way. Help me to trust in Your timing and Your plan for my life. Give me strength to resist temptation and discipline to make healthy choices each day.

Lord, I surrender my journey to You. May my efforts be pleasing in Your sight, and may they bring glory to Your name. Teach me to rely on Your strength and not my own, knowing that with You, all things are possible.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Cultivating Self-Compassion

Have you ever looked in a mirror and thought, “No that can’t be me”?

You look at the image and tear apart each imperfection. “My hips are too wide, my mouth is too thin, my chest is too droopy, my ankles are too wide…..”

After one hundred forty-five pounds of weight loss, I have loose skin almost everywhere.

My arms wobble, when I walk; my thighs ripple; If I bend over without clothes on my tummy droops forward. Yes, I don’t always love the image that stares back at me from the mirror.

I will often go back and look at past pictures of me and then look at new pictures to see the progress that I don’t always see as I stare at the image in that mirror. This is a huge recommendation of mine, take photos through-out your journey.

I pray that God will help me to see myself through His eyes.

Through prayer, God has shown me that I am His. I am loved. I am worthy.

Please read 10 Bible Verses on Body Image to help you through this journey of accepting who you are in Christ.

Each time I start to debase myself, I ask what would I say to a person that is God’s, that is loved, and that is worthy?

I then speak to myself as I would speak to a loved friend.

This isn’t always easy, at first it feels fake.

But keep speaking to yourself as if you are your own best friend and eventually God will help you see that you are your own best friend.

Heavenly Father,

I come before You humbly, acknowledging my weaknesses and imperfections. Thank You for Your unconditional love and grace that sustains me. As I embark on this journey to improve my health through weight loss, I pray for Your guidance and strength.

Lord, I confess that I often struggle with self-criticism and unrealistic expectations. Please help me to cultivate compassion towards myself, just as You have shown me compassion. Teach me to see myself through Your eyes – as a beloved child, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Grant me the wisdom to treat my body with respect and care, making choices that honor You. Help me to balance determination with grace, knowing that true transformation comes from Your power at work within me.

When I face setbacks or moments of discouragement, remind me of Your unfailing love and encourage me to press on. May this journey not only improve my physical health but also deepen my spiritual walk with You.

Thank You, Lord, for Your presence in every step of this journey.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Overcoming Setbacks

Setbacks are one of those things that we all go through, and no one likes.

They are a normal part of any journey.

As you reach a setback, pray that you will learn the lesson God is teaching you.

In my weight loss, God is teaching me patience and trust, especially during this 4 month stall.

He is showing me that gratitude will heal my heart and help me wait.

In my medical journey, God has shown me to rely on Him.

I had the AIHA treatments September through December of 2022. My bariatric surgery was in March of 2023 and then the AIHA returned in July of 2023.

This could have been catastrophic as steroids are dangerous to someone who has weight loss surgery.

Through prayer and guidance, I made suggestions to my medical team. We agreed on lower doses of steroids and for most of them to be delivered via IV, avoiding the new stomach area. I developed no complications.

In July my medical team could not repeat the past treatment as it had not worked prior.

There was an experimental treatment that I was asked to be a participant in.

I prayed and prayed. I like to be in control and God was showing me that it is more important for Him to be in control. He can do so much more with control than I can.

I agreed to the experimental treatment, trusting God. The treatment was not pleasant, basically cancer treatments even though AIHA is not cancer.

I completed my treatments in November of 2023 and as of today, July 2024 there has been no return of the AIHA.

Does this mean AIHA will never come back? No. It means I trust God to be with me no matter what happens.

Does losing 145 pounds mean it can never be gained back? No.

I am trusting God and following the guidelines He put in my life.

I say the weight will not come back, because I will keep praying, trusting, and following the healthy guidelines.

Heavenly Father,

Lord, You know the struggles I face, and You understand the challenges I encounter.
Please grant me Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Lift up my spirit and renew my strength, O Lord. Help me to see this setback as an opportunity for growth and learning rather than a defeat. Fill me with courage and determination to continue on this path, trusting in Your guidance and provision.

Father, I confess my weaknesses and ask for Your forgiveness for any times I have faltered or lost faith. Thank You for Your unconditional love and grace that are always available to me. Help me to turn my eyes back to You and find hope in Your promises.

May I draw closer to You through this experience, relying on Your strength to persevere. Grant me wisdom to learn from this setback and adjust my course as needed. Help me to treat myself with compassion and kindness, knowing that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by You.

Thank You, Lord, for being with me every step of the way. I surrender this setback to You and trust in Your perfect plan for my life.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

3. Prayer Guided Me in Making Healthier Choices

I began to embrace the concept of mindful eating—a practice that encourages being fully present during meals.

Mindful Eating

Being mindful has been a new buzzword in the last decade. It is not just a buzzword.

Mindfulness is about being present in each moment.

When you eat, be present, enjoy what you are eating. Praise God for having the food you eat.

Our world has gotten so busy that we eat on the run and even hug our family on the run. We need to slow down and live in each moment we are given.

I even did this for my treatments. I would sit in the medical recliner ready to receive my treatment and look out the window.

Just outside the window was a bird feeder and the most colorful birds would rest there and eat.

God gave me peace by just resting and being present.

It is difficult in my home to mindfully eat. My husband must have the television on at all times, especially during meals. He says that he can’t eat without it because he hears himself chew.

I try to eat sitting in an area where I cannot see the television, but this is a situation that I pray a great deal about. I need to survive in the home I live in, but also practice mindful eating and living.

If you live in a similar situation, you can pray that God will rest your mind and help you to mindfully eat regardless of your surroundings.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the abundance of blessings You provide, including this food before me. As I prepare to partake in this meal, I invite Your presence into this moment of mindful eating.

Lord, help me to approach this food with gratitude and reverence, recognizing that it is a gift from Your hand. May this act of nourishing my body be transformed into an offering of worship to You. Help me to be mindful of each bite, savoring the flavors and textures You have created.

Guide me to eat with moderation and self-control, honoring the temple of my body which You have entrusted to me. May this meal strengthen me physically and spiritually, aligning my desires with Your will.

Thank You, Lord, for Your provision and for the opportunity to worship You through mindful eating. May my life glorify You in all that I do.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Here is a fantastic article on 20 Ways to Practice Mindful Eating to fit some practical tips into your day.

Honoring the Body:

We are to honor our body, as God says,

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

How do we honor God with our bodies?

We choose to eat healthy, move our bodies, and create a mindset that aligns with God and His word.

Many of us, I know I sure did, would look for lists of what to eat when thinking about honoring God with our bodies. What was I supposed to eat?

I discussed this in greater detail in this What Does God Say About Food and Eating

Basically, a healthy well balanced diet is honoring God through our choices. Eat whole natural foods as much as possible, lean meats, whole grains, vegetables, fruit, and healthy fats.

A planned treat is not a bad thing, as long as it is one serving and planned into your day, not a result of a craving that you give into.

Bread, pasta, potato, crackers, all the things we have heard are to be avoided, can be enjoyed as long as they are 1 serving and planned into your day.

Also look for healthier versions of what you love. Bread, choose whole grain; pasta, choose whole wheat; crackers, choose whole grain.

If you really want that Wonder White Bread, plan it into your day as a treat. Plan a treat into your day 3 times a week.

Practice eating those items that you have tried to avoid, but practice eating just one serving as part of your plan.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31.

Honor God through your choices, by also moving your God given body more. This one took me a long time to achieve, and I am still working on it.

At three hundred forty-nine pounds, movement was painful and I could do very little. I concentrated mainly on making good food choices.

Once I had lost about 100 pounds, I found that I could move some without pain. I started to walk, a little at first and then more.

I can now walk 3-5 miles without being in pain. In fact, I experience less pain with walking than I do with just sitting around, now.

I am now working on being more consistent with movement as a form of worshiping God.

He gave me this body and allowed me to recondition it for purpose and now I need to worship and thank Him by moving and making healthy choices.

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

1 Timothy 4: 8

Overcoming Addictions

I never wanted to admit that I was addicted to food. For me addiction meant life or death and was associated with drugs and alcohol. It is very serious.

I saw my eating as a bad habit, that I should be able to stop. Not a serious life or death issue.

I was wrong.

At three hundred forty-nine pounds, not being able to move, uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood sugar numbers in the high 200s, these were all life and death issues.

I was killing myself.

I was addicted to chocolate.

I could eat a normal meal, even control portions of normal food, but I would crave chocolate. I had to have it.

I lived in Colorado for a period of time and I will never forget walking in a literal blizzard to the neighborhood store so that I could buy a candy bar (more like 3 or 4 candy bars). I needed chocolate and did not have any in the house.

I remember eating a full package of Hershey candy bars that my husband had hidden on me (at my request), but I found them.

I remember hiding empty chocolate wrappers way down in the trash, so that no one would see how many there were.

I even took money from bills to buy my chocolate.

This all shows a pattern of addiction.

Chocolate had become an idol to me.

When I wanted comfort, chocolate. When I wanted help to deal with anything, chocolate. Chocolate was my go to.

Where was God?

He was here, right beside me. His tears washed down His face as He watched me suffer and struggle. He continually hoped for me to just reach out.

We celebrated when I finally did surrender and reach out to Him. His tears turned to tears of joy as He helped me wipe my tears away.

I gave God control.

I have to do this daily, as needing to be in control is a big weakness of mine.

God is my go to now. I enjoy a piece of sugar free chocolate on occasion, but I do not need it any more.

God has given me freedom.

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart, acknowledging my struggle with food addiction. Lord, You know the depths of my cravings and the challenges I face.

Please grant me Your strength and courage to break free from this addiction. I surrender my cravings and desires to You, knowing that with Your help, all things are possible. Replace my unhealthy cravings with a hunger for Your righteousness and Your word.

Lord, fill me with Your Spirit so that I may have self-control and discipline over what I eat. Help me to make wise choices that honor You and nourish my body. Guide me to seek comfort and fulfillment in You alone, rather than in food.

Thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and grace that are new every morning. I trust in Your promises and Your faithfulness to deliver me from this bondage. May my struggles become a testimony of Your power and goodness.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

4. Prayer Provided a Support System

In times of struggle and uncertainty, having a reliable support system is essential for navigating life’s challenges.

Faith Groups

Prayer has been my connection to God and God has made all this journey bearable and successful.

I have heard people say things like, “Oh just pray”, “Or you pray, I’ll do something.” But prayer is critical. Prayer is doing.

It is not just doing something it is bringing the all powerful God into the situation to hold your hand, give you motivation, determination, endurance, and comfort.

Prayer is a life line.

We also need God’s people in our lives to feel connection with like minded individuals and work toward a common goal with shared values and beliefs.

You can find these people in your church, through Christian community gatherings, and online.

For me,  Christian Weight Loss for Women Facebook group has been the most supportive, helpful Christian gathering. They have prayed with me through posts and messages. They have answered questions and just listened to me.

One of my goals now is to be more active in this group, helping others at least a fraction as much as this group has supported me.

I also joined Faithful Finish Lines, a supportive, guided, Christian Weight loss Membership.

They have openings now to test out their new membership starting in January of 2025. If interested in being a part of the test groups, please join. I am in the testing groups and am so excited to begin. We begin on August 1.

Accountability Partners

You can ask for an accountability partner in Christian Weight Loss for Women on Facebook.

I had several women volunteer to be my accountability partner and we still after several years keep in touch and help each other through struggles.

I feel very close to these women, even though we have never met in-person. They are the essence of God on Earth, with faults just like all humans.

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

James 5: 16

With an accountability partner, you can set up what you each need. You can plan times to pray for each other and times to connect on social media, via text, or phone, or Zoom it is completely up to the both of you.

Find someone who is like minded and has similar goals.

I found that in helping someone else, I grew and became more accountable to myself.

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6: 1-2

Accountability practices can be provided through many programs, but it is up to you to utilize this help and it is up to you to find a way to be accountable to yourself. This sounds harsh, and I do not mean it to. It is not easy.

I so wanted someone to just walk with me daily and slap my hand when I did something wrong and tell me what I had to do. I didn’t want to think.

Through prayer I found a way to make myself accountable.

I always want to speak with God and it made me feel sad to speak with Him about what I did wrong all the time, so it motivated me to make correct choices most of the time, so I could come to Him and we could celebrate together.

It also felt great to go to my accountability partner and tell her what had gone well instead of always asking what I could do differently.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5: 11

God’s word tell us:

“Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone?

 Though one may be overpowered,

    two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12

Gracious Father,

I seek Your guidance and strength as I embark on this journey of faith and growth. Lead me to Christian groups and accountability partners who will support and encourage me. May we walk together in fellowship, lifting each other up in prayer and holding each other accountable in love.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

5. Prayer Enhanced My Emotional Well-Being

For me the entire experience of weight loss has been accompanied by emotional challenges.

During the weight loss phase I was always anxious, what if the surgery didn’t help me? What if I didn’t lose as much as I needed to? How could I ever maintain the weight loss?

Then once I had lost 145 pounds more anxious questions arose. What if I can’t maintain? What if I can’t lose the last 20-30 pounds? What if I regain? What if I get the side effects of the surgery (bowel blockage, vitamin absorption issues)?

And on top of all these, what if AIHA returns again?

All these questions did nothing more than increase anxiety and stress.

Stress elevates cortisol levels (a hormone) which inhibits weight loss.

I found that the only way for me to stop the constant questioning was to give all the power to God.

Trust God.

I gave Him the power through prayer and devotion. I know He wants what is best for me and He knows what is best much more than I do.

Heavenly Father,

Grant me the strength to surrender my anxieties and stresses to You as I embark on this journey of weight loss. Help me trust in Your guidance and wisdom, knowing that You are in control of every aspect of my life, including my health and well-being.

Fill me with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help me to focus not on my worries, but on Your promises of strength and encouragement.

Grant me discipline and perseverance to make healthy choices each day, and remind me that my worth is found in You alone, not in numbers or appearances.
May Your grace sustain me through challenges and setbacks, and may Your love inspire me to treat my body with respect and care, as Your temple.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Daily Prayer Routines

First, love and trust God. If you haven’t given Him control in your life yet, please do.

There are practical steps to help incorporate prayer into your daily routines.

  • Make a commitment to pray daily.
  • Schedule in prayer time, just like you would an appointment. You are making an appointment with God.
  • Create a place to be with God. This could be in your special chair or outside by a special tree or brook. A place where you can be free of distractions and close to God.
  • If life happens, which we all know it does, then shorten your prayer, don’t skip it.

    “Dear God,

I bring to You my emotional struggles and challenges related to my weight loss journey. Please bring healing to my heart and mind. Grant me peace and stability amidst stress and anxiety. Help me to find comfort and strength in You. In Your loving arms, I find refuge. Amen.”

Prayer for Consistency and Perseverance:

    “Heavenly Father,

As I strive towards a healthier lifestyle, I pray for consistency and perseverance. Help me to stay committed to my goals even when faced with setbacks or discouragement. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may be steadfast in my efforts. Thank You for being my source of strength. Amen.”

These are prayers to help you get started, but prayer is a conversation between you and God. Speak to Him from your heart and He will hear and answer you.

The most important part is to talk to God.

My routine is to pray a thank you prayer every morning before I get out of bed and I do a devotion and prayer every night before I go to bed.

During the day, I take minutes here and there to utter brief prayers and just to talk to God.

There are many times during the day that my prayer time is in the bathroom during breaks at work.

Prayer does not have to be fancy and elaborate. It needs to be sincere from your heart to God’s.
